Two positions will be filled as either a Business Technical Intern I or II (see below for definitions).
Hiring Range: Business Technical Intern I $14.00 to $18.00/hour
Business Technical Intern II $15.00 to $21.00/hour
Location of position: Main Campus, Administration Building
Full time, 40 hours per week

The Denver Water’s Dam Safety Group within our Engineering Division is responsible for providing dam engineering expertise. Denver Water owns and/or operates 20 raw water holding facilities with that are impounded by dams. These reservoirs store in excess of 640,000 acre-feet and provide raw water supply for the Denver Water service area. Personnel within the Dam Safety Group work closely with other groups within the Engineering Division, as well as other division of Denver Water and outside agencies to assure that dams are functioning in a safe manner and that our program is meeting the requirements of the Colorado State Engineer’s Office (SEO) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Furthermore, we ensure that dam-related projects are projects designed and constructed in accordance with SEO, FERC, and Denver Water Engineering Standards.
Intern Project Description:
The intern position will be for the months of May 2017 to August 2017 at 40 hours per week. The successful candidate will be able to perform the following duties under supervision:
Review information from existing studies on Denver Water’s dams and compile into summary documents.
Assist with dam inspections, inspection reports, and photos.
Create and compile spreadsheets and graphs for dam instrumentation data.
Support site investigation efforts including preparation of field reports and phot documentation.
Perform civil engineering related calculations and analysis including hydrology, hydraulics, mechanics of material and geotechnical related disciplines.
Drive DW vehicle as part of duties.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
Ability to perform calculations and analysis consistent with an engineering educational background.
Knowledge of computer principles, databases, files and basic hardware and software.
Ability to perform software applications using programs such as Word, Excel, and Adobe.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, the public and other private and public sector organizations.
Enthusiastic attitude and sincere interest in water engineering as a career path.
Education Requirements: High School graduation and 30 hours or more of college level course work in an ABET accredited engineering or construction management program.
Experience Requirements: None required. Preferred experience is one year or more in sub-professional engineering or office environment, or construction site.
Other Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Class ‘R’ Colorado driver’s license, and have a satisfactory driving record.
Business/Technical Intern I – Freshman or Sophomore level student in Construction Management and/or Engineering program.
Business/Technical Intern II – Junior or Senior level student in Construction Management and/or Engineering program. A Class ‘R” Colorado driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
